Challenges within an Industry

In every industry, there are challenges or critical factors that players must overcome to survive and ultimately be successful in their chosen market. With this in mind, checkOnomics has dedicted an area in each industry lobby to Challenges within the industry.

More often than not, technology is one of those aspects or factors that drives many businesses and companies forward. The existence of new technology that a company employs is just as important a factor as the new technology that a company invents. Therefore it is not surprising that the existence and invention of new technology within an industry or market is very important in gauging the growth, expansion or failure of it.

Why is Technology such an Important Area when Studying a Market?

Whether you are interested in an industry or a market because you are:

  • Running a company or leading a company into the market,
  • introducing a new or existing product,
  • investing in the market or
  • general interest,

One of the most important areas is the new or existing technology being introduced to it.

If you already operate your company within the market, you would need to keep up-to-date with any new technological advances - especially if your competitors actually brought the technology in. To be one step ahead of your competitors, you would need to gauge what new research they are conducting and see whether you can come up with the new technology or product first - or be able to produce something similar but at a better value for money with more benefits to your customers - thereby gaining more market share. Maybe there is new technology that exists in another market or industry that you can use yourself to help your company move forward. Or maybe you can see a need within the market that needs to be fulfilled, so you direct your company’s R&D department to conduct research into a new product to fulfil and capitalise on that need.

If you are thinking of investing within the market, you would need to conduct some research to see what new technological advances are taking place so that you know which companies are more likely to be successful and therefore make a more informed decision in investing in the right company.

New technological advances will shape an industry and dictate the direction in which a company will expand and hence the direction in which the market will change and expand. A good example is that of the music industry, in the past music was produced and recorded on large records to be played on record players. These records were delicate, large and unwieldy, as well as hard (or maybe impossible) to record on and distribute. In came the invention of tapes - much smaller and easier to record - also less delicate and so we have the invention of the portable tape player - much less cumbersome to carry around. However, tapes do not last after numerous recordings and the quality will start to deteriorate. Compact discs were invented - music was digitally stored on them and the quality can be superb, a smaller version also came into the market - the minidisc, making your music even more portable. As time goes on, the devices in which music can be recorded on have become better - the benefits being more portable, better quality, more memory. We have now come to an age where the technological advances in the music industry have allowed us to be able to record entire libraries or thousands of songs on very small mp3 players - some small enough to be able to be able to clip onto your clothes - smaller than a clothes peg! Looking back, those that have kept in the know in the technological advances in the portable and recordable music industry, would have invested in those companies who had conducted research into how music could be rendered digitally.

Challenges within a market is such an important area that it commands a dashboard area within each lobby covered by checkOnomics’ data. Here you will find data and information rendered in an easy to read format, detailing the new technology that is being used and those that are in the pipeline. As checkOnomics also updates its data constantly, why not subscribe to a lobby and keep up to date with the current developments within your chosen market!
